I am a doctoral student in the interdisciplinary ASPECT program at Virginia Tech where I study place, identity and sound. I currently teach Introduction to Appalachian Studies courses and serve as the editor of the SPECTRA journal-- an online, peer reviewed, interdisciplinary academic journal. I am from McDowell County, NC and earned my MA in Appalachian Studies from Appalachian State University and BFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College. In my spare time I enjoy walking my dogs and attending bluegrass festivals.
